Graduate Programmes

The English Language and Literature program at the SES is one of the most established and academically accomplished of its kind not only in Shanghai but also in the whole country. The program is ranked A+ (one of the top four in China) by the Ministry of Education for its prominence in teaching and research, and included in China’s “Double First Class” initiative.

Currently, the SES offers Master’s and Doctoral degree programs in 10 areas of studies: (1) Linguistics, (2) British and American Literature, (3) Comparative Literature, (4) Applied Linguistics, (5) Translation Studies, (6) Interpreting Studies, (7) British Studies, (8) American Studies, (9) Intercultural Communication and (10) National and Area (Language Policy) Studies.

Building on its tradition while aiming for the future, the SES has accomplished much in its efforts to create young talents who not only are proficient in language, but also have international vision and concerns for humanity, especially through its humanistic reform in recent years. The SES is pushing firmly ahead to become an internationally leading institute of English studies and related fields.
