Dr FU Mengxing received her PhD in English from the City University of Hong Kong (2017), MA in Comparative Literature from University College London (2013) and her BA in English Language and Literature from Shanghai International Studies University (2012). She joined SHISU in 2017, first as post-doctorate researcher (2017-2019) and then as full-time lecturer.

Her research interests include nineteenth-century British fiction, the Gothic, fantasy literature, zhiguai and ghost stories, women's writing and the contemporary Internet literature.

She has published articles in English and Chinese on British-Chinese comparative literature and the nineteenth-century zhiguai. Her monograph, The Perturbed Self: Gender and History in the Late Nineteenth-Century Ghost Stories in China and Britain, is upcoming in 2021 (with Routledge). She is currently working on a research project examining the spectral narratives in contemporary Chinese and American literature.
