Prof. Lin Ling is a full professor at School of English and executive director of Centre for American Studies, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) in China. She is also a member of the standing committee of Chinese Association of American Studies (CAAS). Prof. Lin has been teaching in SISU since 1997 and has conducted research as a visiting scholar at the University of Hong Kong (2003-04 on American Starr Foundation PhD studentship), the University of South Carolina (2006 on Fulbright fellowship of Summer Institute in American Studies), the University of Leicester (2010-2011 on British Academy visiting fellowship) and Harvard University (2015 on US-China Education Trust American Studies Fellowship).

Prof. Lin’s major research interests include American racial politics, American and British Muslim diaspora, African American Muslim community, and black nationalism, among others. Her completed research projects include A Study of the Political Empowerment of American Muslims(2007 SISU research project), Muslims in the West: Hybrid Identities in Contemporary Fiction (2010 British Academy visiting fellowship project) and “Muslims in Black America”(2015 US-China Education Trust American Studies Fellowship project). She has published some 30 essays in American studies and co-edited accredited textbooks including English-Speaking Countries: A Survey, Ethics and International Affairs, etc. She has authored From Black Nationalism to Orthodox Islam: Black Muslim Movement in America (2016) as a Chinese Ministry of Education research project. She’s currently working on research projects on “Black Nationalism in America in the Post-Civil Rights Era” and “Class Stratification and Black Community Development in the Post-Civil Rights Era”.
