The aims of SISU-LeCTIS Translation Studies Salon are simple, but hopefully, impactful: to provide a stimulating and motivating platform for staff members and postgraduate students, and to promote exchange of academic research and other related issues of the two partner institutions. The Salon particularly serves early career academics and PhD students at an advanced stage.
With these in mind, we propose the following organisational principles:
Time: 8-9.30 am (UK time) / 4 – 5.30 pm (China time), 3rd Friday of each month
Session Venue: online platform; Microsoft Teams
Format of each session:
30-minute themed talk;
30-minute discussion and feedback on the talk;
30-minute other questions.
One PhD student or early career academic volunteers to host each session. The tasks include:
Organise the preparation
Give a talk of 30 minutes of their own research
Suggest and collect discussion questions about their research and other related issues
Chair the session
Guiding values:
We encourage relaxed and engaged discussion;
We welcome different views and critiques;
We treat each other with respect and dignity;
We take pride in our own progress and applaud the achievements of others;
We foster a supportive virtual community.
Salon Convenors:
Prof Xiao Weiqing (SISU)
Dr Yan Ying (LeCTIS)
*March – August 2021 will be the experimental period. A review of the format and organisation will be conducted between late August and early September.
